Today, Auntie Katherine, my sister, came down to visit and watch Aeryn for the day while Ben and I attended his Uncle Colin’s funeral. A really sad occasion made slightly better by knowing Aeryn had a wonderful day.

She ran Katherine ragged at soft play and then we went for an early dinner before Kath had to get back for work. She lives 2 hours away and is a midwife, so has long shifts and did a lot of driving in awful wind to watch her for us.

Aeryn loved that she and Katherine had matching brown boots, so I got this great snap of them being silly together.

The funeral was really emotional but coming home to a very lively little person and feeling her little sibling inside me has helped me to focus on Colin’s life rather than dwell on his death. Young people somehow make you focus on the good and don’t give you much chance to dwell, they just carry on regardless, somewhat oblivious.

Colin’s sense of humour and love for his family will be my lasting memories of our time together. We will remember him always.
